Here's our latest from Open Eyes Radio!

Eben Turner: Hello there, and welcome to Open Eyes News. Today I have on the line journalist for Open Eyes.com Roen Jansen. Welcome, Roen.

Roen Jansen: Happy to be here! Today I’m going to be talking about my feature article about the beautiful whales being slaughtered. Whaling is horrible and needs to be stopped.

Eben: Why is that so, Roen?

Roen: It is killing animals for unnecessary reasons and needs to be stopped. The aftermath is it decreases the whale population which is greatly damaging the food chain.

Eben: How do you think could that affect nature?

Roen: An example of this practise seriously affecting our natural world is that with the whales being killed, shrimp would take over the ocean, since there is less of them being eaten, and would cause unbalance in the ocean.

Eben: Why do people hunt whales, Roen?

Roen: The whale industry mainly hunts whales for their consumption, but very few people eat whale and even less still use whale oil for making lamp fuel and soap. Since people barely do this any more, there is really no use for whale oil or meat.

Eben: I’ve heard that if we stop whaling it would help the economy. Is this true?

Roen: Yes actually, the boats could be used for something more useful like transport of goods or people. The boat fuel could also be used for more useful purposes. It will also cut down on global warming because there won’t be as many boats creating smoke and waste.

Eben: Is there anything else you would like to add before we come to an end?

Roen: Yes, I would just like to say that, according to researcher and news reporter Georgia Bowers, whales have just as much right as humans and practise of humans hunting the whale population may seriously affect the whales, especially the calves, the baby whales. Even though the whales might not be as smart as humans, it still hurts them to have their family killed. Thanks for having me here to talk about this serious issue.

Eben: It was great having you on the line, Roen. If you want to help with the whaling you can donate money to saving the whales. Personally, I think stopping the whaling even for just a year or a couple may seriously help the whale population. Stay tuned for more on whaling. I’m Eben Turner, and I’ll see you later.
